about Sally Murphy

Sally Murphy is an experienced and dedicated cello teacher who works with students from young beginners through advanced, college-bound cellists. With a background in Suzuki pedagogy and extensive experience working with developing cellists, she emphasizes healthy technique, strong musicianship, and effective practice habits.

She has held faculty positions at the University of Northern Colorado, Murray State University, and the Indianapolis Suzuki Academy. During her graduate studies, she served as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University. She has also served as faculty for the Western States Honor Orchestra Festival at UNC and adjudicated cello examinations through the American String Teachers Association. In the summer months, she has taught at the UNT International Summer Music Institute in Denton, Texas, and the International Summer School in Pirovac, Croatia.

As a performer, Sally maintains an active career as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared in the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s International Chamber Series (Plano, Texas), the Garden Music Series (Carbondale, CO), the Ad Astra Music Festival (KS), and the Beethoven in the Rockies Concert Series (CO). She has performed as a soloist with the Littleton Symphony, the Greeley Chamber Orchestra, and UNC’s Early Music Ensemble. Her orchestral experience includes positions with the Greeley Philharmonic, Cheyenne Symphony, Owensboro Symphony, and Paducah Symphony.

Sally completed her doctoral studies in cello performance at Indiana University. She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Her primary mentors have included Peter Stumpf, Nikola Ružević, Gal Faganel, and Barbara Thiem.
